FOR ONE WEEK ONLY, DA! Theatre Collective is proud to present the premiere of DAYBOYNIGHTGIRL, their first full-length production since the award-winning 2009 hit Leave it to Beverly.  Developed and work-shopped for over a year by the Collective under the direction of Heather Huggins, DAYBOYNIGHTGIRL features choreography by Lisa del Rosario, a script by Kirk German, and an original score composed by guest artist Catherine Davis.

Loosely adapted from The Romance of Photogen & Nycteris, a magical novella written by Scottish author George MacDonald in 1882, DAYBOYNIGHTGIRL tells the fable of a mysterious castle where one child is raised entirely in darkness while another is nurtured by the sun.  But kids will be kids, and each of the children soon starts craving new experiences… Using only bodies, music, and light, DA! intertwines movement, music and storytelling to illuminate this forgotten Gaelic fairy tale.

DayBoyNightGirl DA Theatre CollectiveWith no set pieces and no props, the actors do almost everything in DAYBOYNIGHTGIRL, transforming seamlessly from human characters into animals, from trapped spirits into furniture, hallways, staircases, water, wind, and more.  The talented ensemble features a mix of some of Austin’s favorite performers along with some new faces.  The cast includes Jude Hickey, Sophia Franzella, Jacob Trussell, Meg Peck, Scott Roskilly, Lisa del Rosario, Lainey Murphy, Kirk German, Heather Huggins, Kyle Housworth, Abe Ramirez, Gray Randolph, and Krista Wold.

The production team includes Heather Huggins, Director; Jason Amato, Lighting Design; Erica Lambert, Costume Design; Jeanne Harris, Assistant Director; and Taylor Kulhanek, Production Stage Manager.

DayBoyNightGirl DA Theatre Collective AUstinDAYBOYNIGHTGIRL started with an idea: can we thread three distinct forms together to bring Photogen & Nycteris to the stage?

To test our hypothesis, DA! began developing the production piece by piece, sharing portions of the work in progress with select audiences in April & December of 2011.  The feedback received at discussion sessions held after each of these performances has helped to inform many of the changes and new elements that will be integrated into the June production.

Audiences only have SIX chances to see this dynamic and innovate multidisciplinary work on stage.  And tickets are on sale now! … DA! Theatre Collective is honored to be a recipient of a 2009 Austin Chronicle “Best of Austin” Critics’ Pick award for “Best Non-Profit Startup,” and DA! is proud to be a not-for-profit collective sponsored by Austin’s own Hyde Park Theatre.
