Based on the true story of The Bloody Countess, Erzsebet Bathori, this original opera is a tale of horror, murder, and magic created by award-winning Ethos composer and designer Chad Salvata. Vampyress received accolades when it debuted at The Vortex in 2005, including winning B. Iden Payne Awards for Outstanding Original Score (Chad Salvata), Outstanding Lead Actress (Melissa Vogt-Patterson), and Outstanding Supporting Actress (Betsy McCann).

Born in 16th-century Hungary, this Bloody Countess, Bathori, murdered hundreds of young women and bathed in their blood in order to sustain her youth and beauty. This historical figure has been both vilified and honored over the centuries. Salvata’s embellishment of her notorious downfall produces a powerful and mysterious work of storytelling.

Rob Nash is pleased to present the debut of his newest one-man comedy, Special Needs, a heart-warming, funny, compassionate, and rigorously honest account. Actor and writer Rob Nash explores the lives of Austin’s disabled students, as well as the roles of faculty, administrators, parents, group homes, politicians, and voters. He is grateful that these special education departments are strong and successful. Unfortunately, in the education system, it’s the regular ed kids whose needs aren't respected or adequately addressed by the system.

Nash has been writing and performing his own brand of one-man shows at The VORTEX since 1995, most notably the award-winning Holy Cross Sucks! Special Needs is funded and supported in part by the City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division.

This fresh, bright adaptation of The Wife of Bath’s Tale from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales offers a modern twist on an old tale.  The Wife of Bath’s Tale blends a contemporary character and setting with clever video, original illustrations and music, a splash of Middle English, and a sprinkling of time-travel.  Insightful and humorous, and always surprising, it proves that the more things change, the more they stay the same.  But what is the same for one, may not be the same for all

This one-woman show stars Lorella Loftus (last seen in Good Things).  Also featuring Andy Agne (Sleeping Beauty).  Directed by Karen Jambon (Eurydice).  Lighting design by Patrick Anthony (Eurydice).  Scenic Design by Elaine Jacobs (Good Things).  Illustrations by Ann Marie Gordon (Sleeping Beauty).  Video Design by Kell Condon (new to Austin from NY).  Sound Design by David DeMaris (R.U.R).  Costume Design by Talena Martinez (Oceana).  This production is presented in honored memory of Shekhar Govind.

Free Parking.  Bus Route.  Delicious Café.
